India is one of the leading producers of tiles. Not only do various tile manufacturing companies supply their products for domestic applications but a huge volume of tiles is exported to other countries too.

India’s ceramics and glassware exports for 2021-22 set a new high of US$ 3464 million. During the fiscal year 2013-14, India’s ceramic and glassware exports totaled US$ 1292 million.

Ceramic tile export growth has been achieved as a result of an increase in shipments of Ceramic Tiles and Sanitary Wares items. With the “Make in India” concept, India has become a worldwide player and earns foreign money for the country, and it is now the world’s second-biggest manufacturer and exporter of ceramic tiles.

Glassware exports have increased due to an increase in shipments of Articles of Glass Packing of Goods, Made-up Articles of Glass Fibre, Porcelain Sanitary Fixtures, Glass Mirror, Tinted Non-Wired Glass, Glass Bead, and Glass Wool.

The major destinations for Indian tile exporters are Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Poland. Russia and Latin American countries have also been included as new markets.

The Role of the Indian Government

The Ministry of Commerce’s untamed efforts have resulted in an increase in Ceramic and Glassware product exports. CAPEXIL has also undertaken a number of initiatives using Grant in Aid under the Market Access Initiative Scheme, such as organizing B2B exhibitions in various countries and exploring new potential markets through product-specific and marketing campaigns with the active participation of Indian embassies.

This export boom has occurred despite significant logistical constraints such as high freight prices, container shortages, and so on. Small and medium-sized exporters from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh have benefited from an increase in ceramic and glassware exports.

Over the years, the industry has modernized via new technologies and product profiles, quality, and design to emerge as a contemporary World-class industry able to compete globally. Our novel designs of digitally printed tiles, and bigger-sized tiles in a variety of colors have also achieved favor in international markets.
